The Bite Will Come...What My Father Taught Me About Waiting for What Matters

I’ve always been the kind of person who moved with a heart full of ideas and a spirit that refused to sit still for long.
One day I'm designing. Next, I'm rewriting inspiring product descriptions, then I’m off dreaming up new stories, organizing shipping strategies, or creating something to help someone feel seen. It’s just how I’ve always been... a thinker, a creator, a feeler.

But growing up, I had to learn something powerful:
how to stop, breathe, and wait.
That lesson came from the one person who understood me most — my father.
We used to go fishing together when I was young. I’d get so excited, practically bouncing in the boat, wanting to feel that tug on the line the second I dropped it in the water.
My dad, with his quiet, calm, and knowing smile, would always say:

»»»» "The bite will come.” ««««
He didn’t just mean the fish. He meant everything!
When I was frustrated. When I wanted results right now. When I couldn’t sit still.
When life didn’t move as fast as my dreams.

He would gently remind me to absorb the
universe around me, while I waited.
To listen to the birds.
Feel the wind.
Notice the ripples.
Be present in the stillness —
because something was always
happening, even if I couldn’t see it.
And then, when the bite finally came, when the line tugged and my eyes lit up and I nearly tipped the boat from excitement... My dad would just laugh and say:

“Wasn’t it worth the wait?”
And it always was! Even now, decades later...I still hear his voice. It’s been over 30 years since he passed, and I miss him every single day.
But that lesson never left me.
Whether I’m building my store, rethinking my blog, or navigating one of life’s thousand winding paths...I try to remember:

Slow down. Breathe. Trust.
The bite will come.
And when it does... it’ll be worth the wait.
To anyone reading this... If you're struggling with doubt, impatience, or uncertainty,
this blog post is for you.
You don’t have to know the exact next step right now. Just stay open. Feel the wind.
Let your spirit rest a while.
The bite will come. And when it does… I hope it fills your heart just like mine.
With friendship & understanding,
Deborah
